Privacy Policy

Last updated: 22 October 2026

This policy explains what personal data the Morshed app and this website collect, why we collect it, who we share it with, how long we keep it and the choices you have. We have tried to keep it short and plain.

1. Who we are

Morshed is made by BugSquad Software, a company registered in Egypt (Commercial Register No. 22375). BugSquad Software is the controller of your personal data: we decide why and how it is processed.

This policy covers the Morshed apps for Android and iOS and this website, morshedapp.bugsquad.co. Our full contact details are in section 15.

2. Data we collect

Your account

  • Your Egyptian mobile number. You sign in with a code we send by SMS; there are no passwords.
  • Your name, username, date of birth and gender.
  • A profile photo and an email address, if you choose to add them.
  • The date and time you accepted our terms.

Sign-in and security

  • The one-time login codes and session tokens we issue. We store them only in hashed form, never as readable codes.
  • For each session: a device ID, the device name, the platform (Android or iOS) and your IP address.
  • For each login-code request: the phone number, device ID, IP address and app language.

Location

Your precise or approximate location, only while you are using the app. See section 4.

Content you post

Questions, answers, reviews, ratings, votes, likes, follows, photos and videos, information you contribute about places, stations and transport, and reports you make about content.

Activity

Points, ranks, badges, streaks and the days you were active in the app.

Camera and photo library

The app uses your camera or photo library only when you choose to take or pick a photo to upload. It does not read the rest of your library.

Server logs

Our servers record your IP address and the path of each request they receive.

Messages to us

If you email us, we keep your message and email address so we can answer you.

What we do not collect

  • We do not show advertising and do not use advertising IDs.
  • We do not use analytics or crash-reporting tools.
  • We do not send push notifications.
  • We do not access your contacts or your microphone.
  • We do not collect background location.
  • We do not sell or rent your personal data to anyone.

3. How we use your data

We use your data only to:

  • Provide Morshed: create and run your account, show your profile and posts, plan trips and track their progress, and award points and badges.
  • Keep Morshed secure: verify your phone number, protect accounts, limit abuse of login codes and prevent fraud.
  • Moderate content: review reports, remove content that breaks our rules and act against abusive accounts.
  • Meet legal obligations: respond to lawful requests and keep the records the law requires.

Under Egypt's Personal Data Protection Law (Law No. 151 of 2020), we rely on these legal bases:

  • Your consent, for example when you allow location or camera access or add optional details. You can withdraw it at any time.
  • What is necessary to provide the service you requested, under our Terms of Use, including keeping your account secure and moderating content.
  • Complying with our legal obligations.

We use your date of birth to check that you meet the minimum age. We will not use your data for a new purpose without telling you first and, where the law requires it, asking for your consent.

4. Location data

  • Morshed uses your precise or approximate location only while the app is open and in use. It does not track your location in the background.
  • We use it to plan trips and to show your progress along a trip.
  • We store the start and end points of each trip and, for each milestone (stage) of the trip, the last known point and the route. We do not keep a continuous history of where you have been.
  • To calculate routes, the trip's coordinates are sent to Google (see section 5).

Turning it off: you can allow or deny location access at any time in your phone's settings, under the app's permissions. Without it, trip planning and progress tracking may not work.

5. Who we share data with

Service providers. We share data only with companies that process it on our behalf and under our instructions:

  • SMS Misr (Egypt) receives your phone number to deliver your login codes.
  • Google provides the maps in the app. Its Routes service receives trip coordinates to calculate routes.
  • Our hosting provider stores our servers and files.

Other Morshed users. Content you post, such as questions, answers, reviews, ratings, photos and videos, is visible to other users of the app.

Authorities. We disclose data when the law or a valid order from a competent authority requires it.

We do not sell or rent your personal data, and we do not share it with advertisers.

6. International transfers

Some of your data is processed outside Egypt:

  • Google processes map requests and trip coordinates on its servers, which may be in other countries.
  • Our servers and files may be hosted outside Egypt.

We handle these transfers in line with Law No. 151 of 2020 and expect our providers to protect your data to a standard no lower than Egyptian law requires.

7. How long we keep data

We keep personal data only as long as we need it for the purposes above.

  • By email, without the app. Email support@morshedapp.bugsquad.co with your registered phone number. We send a code to that number by SMS, you reply with the code, and we complete the deletion within 30 days. We never delete an account on the strength of an email alone.

When your account is deleted, your profile data, profile photo, all the images and videos you uploaded, your follows, notifications, likes, votes, trips and badges are deleted, and you are signed out of every device. What we keep, and why, is listed in section 7.

Step-by-step instructions are on the Delete Account page.

9. Your rights

Under Egypt's Personal Data Protection Law (Law No. 151 of 2020), you have the right to:

  • know what personal data we hold about you and get a copy of it;
  • have inaccurate data corrected;
  • have your data deleted;
  • ask us to restrict how we process your data;
  • object to processing;
  • withdraw your consent at any time, for example by turning off location access in your phone's settings;
  • be told if a breach affects your personal data.

To use any of these rights, email support@morshedapp.bugsquad.co. We may ask you to confirm that the account is yours, for example with an SMS code. We answer within the time the law sets. Where the law requires it, requests are free of charge.

If you are not satisfied with our answer, you can complain to Egypt's Personal Data Protection Center.

10. Security

  • There are no passwords to steal: you sign in with a one-time code sent to your phone.
  • We store login codes, session tokens and registration tokens only in hashed form.
  • On your phone, the app keeps your sign-in tokens in encrypted storage.
  • Access to personal data is restricted to authorised staff.

No system is completely secure. If a breach affects your personal data, we will notify the competent authority and affected users where the law requires.

11. Children

  • You must be at least 15 years old to use Morshed. Under-15s cannot register.
  • If you are 15, 16 or 17, you must confirm that a parent or guardian agrees to your use of Morshed.
  • If we learn that an account belongs to someone under 15, we delete it.

If you are a parent or guardian and think your child under 15 has an account, email support@morshedapp.bugsquad.co.

12. This website

  • This website sets no cookies and runs no analytics.
  • It loads no third-party resources: its fonts and images are served from our own server.
  • Like any web server, our host keeps standard access logs, such as IP addresses and the pages requested.

13. Changes to this policy

BugSquad Software may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will post the updated policy on this page with a new "Last updated" date, and give any further notice the law requires.

14. Language

This policy is published in Arabic and English. If the two versions differ, the Arabic version prevails.
